A Tale of Two Cakes

Once upon a time, there were four girls that wanted to do something for special for a friend's birthday. They schemed, they plotted, they planned. They searched on the internet for fun looking cakes. This proved to be a greater challenge than anticipated. They found all sorts of weird and wonderful looking cakes including a dead crow cake, a thorax cavity complete with realistic looking organs, and a wedding cake the shape and likeness of the bride. These gals were eager to find the perfect design for their friend's cake as simply any cake would not do. Finally, they had a brilliant idea!

So one spring night, they gathered in a friend's kitchen with a square shaped vanilla cake, icing and icing supplies, decorations, various knives and various decorating items, and an extra cake mix (just in case!). They began by mixing food colouring to create the perfect colours with which to ice the cake.

They then removed the cake from the pan which sadly stuck to the bottom, causing parts of it to crumble. They cut the cake into a rectangular shape in such a way that left the cake as complete as possible.

A tuna can was used as the stencil to form a very important part of the cake - the lens. Due to the crummy cake, this was more difficult than expected. Yet the challenge ahead was even more complicated - to attach the lens to the body of the cake without ruining the cake itself.

Much care was taken to ice the lens on a cake knife in order to make a graceful flip with the hopes of keeping the cake in tact.

The victorious moment was celebrated as they accomplished what seemed impossible with a cake piece prone to falling apart.

The finishing touches were added. The girls cheered and admired their handiwork. A beautiful camera shaped cake was ready for the celebration. Complete with lens cap, flash and shutter button.

But first - the girls decided to take pictures of their masterpiece.

J. in her infinite wisdom was hesitant to tip the cake any further for fear that the lens would slide off. Bemoaned by the fact that the cake could not be captured in its entirety, E. decided to risk everything in order to fully document the moment. E. would later come to regret this seemly courageous decision.

E. laughed as J. tried to capture the beautiful cake. C. screamed. J. gasped. E. screamed, not knowing yet what fate had come their way.

The moment was documented as desired, though the picture was not as glorious as originally anticipated.

Memories of the late beloved Miss Harriet the Hedgehog were triggered by the lens falling apart in an accidental offering to the floor. The four girls mourned and attempted to comfort each other.

A. being the wonderful optimist that she is tried to console her friends by insisting that the cake could be fixed:

"Wait...[gasp]...[giggling]...wait [giggling] I know you won't believe me but... [gasp]..... [kneeling over with laughter]... I think we can fix this!"

She masterfully came up with a plan to rescue the poor cake and bring it to an even greater state.

The four friends cheered and celebrated the revival of the birthday cake. And took the remaining pictures of the cake flat on the counter.

The End.
